So we watched with interest, the rising temperature inside and outside the house. The house performed pretty well today, and kept around 12 degrees lower than outside, until around 5pm, when it was still 36 outside, and the temperature inside climbed to 27.
As I write this it is 7.55pm, 31.1 outside and 26.9 inside. This is with no fans or cooling mechanisms. We will be watching for how quickly the house cools down tonight relative to the outside temperature. I think we will open up the windows pretty soon! We are pretty sure that there are still some significant gaps where hot air can get in, but we are really enjoying our new weather station - big thanks to Peter's sister Belinda and her family for this gift.
But back to the magificent deck that Peter is building. It is one of his favourite jobs of the build, and he is revelling in it. It looks beautiful already. The decking timber is recycled (reclaimed) messmate and tasi oak hardwood from our legendary friend Ray Barton who has a recycled timber business called Recycled Floors in Dandenong.
I simply would not work in the kind of heat we experienced today, so I have been giving him lots of encouragement - he is feeling very satisfied with how the deck has progressed.
I'm pretty sure Peter will be both happy and satisfied when it is complete, but also sad, as there will be no more deck to do!
