Finally a payoff for all the "more important" building tasks! I built the south deck! It took me about four days to complete but I've been looking forward to it for ages so it hardly seemed to take a moment. It is instantly satisfying and walking out the south door on to something other than joists and a metre plus drop is surreal. Sure, it has no steps up to it yet but a step ladder does the trick for now and it's a whole new outlook from the house. Terrific!
I also need to get the materials for the safety rails and build that but for now I'm enjoying just having something to walk on. I really love the different patterns, colours and grains that the recycled hardwood gives us. That's one of the things that makes it so enjoyable, selecting the timber to use(thatnks to Ray from Classic Recycled Floors for supplying us with more great material). So I still need to do the small section around the east side and work out a decent way to make the hand rails safe there.
So we're inching towards another tick off the list, the bathroom is starting to loom as something to get my teeth into now. If I think about it long enough I'll think of a brilliant way of doing it all!
