After a good amount of discussion about details, Dad and I went into the local plumbing supplies shop and selected a shower and vanity. They put us in touch with a couple of blokes, Adrian the carpenter and Bob the plumber who build bathrooms. After meeting them we agreed to get them in to do our bathroom.
The first thing they decided was that the floor waste was in completely the wrong place so they pulled up the floor which I had carefully sculpted with a marvelous fall to the waste and repositioned the waste in the middle of the floor. Oh well. I was very pleased with my work first time round but like I said in the last blog, no room for being precious.
Then they did all the work making my dodgy walls plumb and fitting the shower base and the bath in place. It was really very strange to walk into a room of our house and see it change before my eyes without me having to do a thing. Pretty cool though. In about a week they had the job done. I have no idea how long it would have taken me or how I would have overcome all of the curious problems I had set myself up with. Luckily, Adrian and Bob were keen problem solvers.
We now have a fully working bathroom and the only things left are the ceiling and the wall cladding around the shower. We have enjoyed having a bath, it’s a dream come true. One thing’s for sure, we would never have found time to do it ourselves any time soon. Thanks to Dad and to tradesmen with good attitudes and good skills.
